IT’s JUST A WEDDING
The Rise of the Female Wedding DJ: How Authentic Leadership is Changing the Event Industry
If you had searched Google for "female wedding DJ near me" just a few years ago, you probably wouldn't have found many options.
In fact, when I first began exploring what would eventually become The Energy Producer, I searched those exact words.
What appeared?
A DJ...
Who lived in Dubai.
I remember laughing.
Then I remember realizing something much bigger.
There wasn't a lack of demand.
There was simply a lack of visibility.
There was an entire generation of women who belonged behind the microphone, leading dance floors, directing timelines, producing unforgettable celebrations, and creating incredible guest experiences.
They just weren't showing up in search results.
That realization changed everything.
Sometimes the Market Tells You Exactly What It Needs
Every successful business begins with solving a problem.
For me...
The problem wasn't music.
The problem wasn't weddings.
The problem was representation.
I had spent years working as an MC, watching hundreds of weddings unfold from behind the scenes.
I observed incredible entertainers.
I learned from industry leaders.
I watched what worked.
I also noticed something missing.
There were very few women standing confidently at the center of the room leading hundreds of guests.
I knew that could change.
And more importantly...
I wanted to be part of that change.
It's Hard to Become What You Never See
Representation matters.
Whether it's education...
Business...
Leadership...
Or entertainment...
People often need permission to imagine themselves in a role before they ever pursue it.
When young women attend weddings today and see a woman confidently leading the room...
Reading the crowd...
Directing the evening...
Owning the microphone...
Something shifts.
It quietly says:
"You belong here too."
That visibility creates possibility.
From First Grade Teacher to Energy Producer
People are often surprised when I tell them I was a teacher before entering the entertainment industry.
But honestly...
Teaching prepared me for this work in ways I never expected.
Every day as an educator I learned how to:
Read a room.
Adapt in real time.
Capture attention.
Build trust quickly.
Help people feel comfortable.
Lead with confidence.
Those same skills now help me guide weddings, corporate events, and celebrations.
Because being an exceptional MC isn't about having the loudest voice.
It's about helping people feel safe enough to celebrate.
Breaking Into a Traditionally Male Industry
The wedding industry has evolved tremendously.
When I first entered the market...
There were still clients who questioned whether they wanted a female DJ.
Sometimes those conversations happened directly.
Other times they happened quietly behind the scenes.
Instead of letting those moments define me...
I let my work speak.
Wedding after wedding.
Event after event.
Relationship after relationship.
Eventually something beautiful happened.
The conversation shifted.
Instead of asking,
"Can a woman DJ our wedding?"
Couples began asking,
"Can we hire Jamie?"
That difference means everything.
Building a Business Bigger Than Yourself
One of the greatest lessons entrepreneurship has taught me is this:
Growth requires letting go.
When I first started...
I believed every event had to be me.
Every consultation.
Every timeline.
Every performance.
Every wedding.
Eventually my calendar became full.
That's when I realized something important.
The Energy Producer wasn't supposed to stay one person.
It was supposed to become a philosophy.
Today...
Our intimate team includes talented DJs and MCs with unique strengths, personalities, and backgrounds.
Some specialize in dance competitions.
Others bring expertise in multicultural celebrations.
Some are incredible emcees.
Others create unforgettable dance floors.
What unites us isn't identical personalities.
It's shared values.
Connection.
Planning.
Excellence.
Energy.
Competition Isn't the Goal—Community Is
One of my favorite parts of this conversation was hearing Jamie talk about abundance.
Instead of viewing other entertainment companies as competition, she believes there is room for everyone to succeed. She recognizes that every DJ, every MC, and every entertainment company brings something different to the table.
Not every couple is looking for the same experience—and that's okay.
Rather than trying to be the perfect fit for everyone, Jamie focuses on being the perfect fit for the people who resonate with her approach. That mindset allows her to collaborate with other professionals, refer clients when another company is a better match, and celebrate the success of fellow artists.
In an industry often driven by comparison, this perspective is refreshing. It reminds us that authenticity creates more opportunity than imitation ever could.
Leading with Abundance Instead of Scarcity
Another thing that stood out during the conversation was Jamie's philosophy around supporting her team.
As The Energy Producer has grown into a multi-operator company, she has intentionally chosen to build an intimate team of independent artists rather than simply expanding for the sake of growth. She encourages each team member to develop their own brand, value their expertise, and charge rates that reflect their worth.
For Jamie, leadership isn't about keeping people dependent on her business.
It's about helping them grow.
That mindset creates trust, attracts exceptional talent, and strengthens the experience clients receive.
The Future of Event Entertainment
The entertainment industry continues to evolve.
Couples want more than playlists.
Corporate clients want more than announcements.
Families want more than someone who simply presses play.
They want someone who understands people.
Someone who can read energy.
Someone who creates connection.
Someone who leads with intention.
That is exactly what The Energy Producer was built to do.
